The Past Week in Review

First off, on an incredibly sad note, Lisa from Clusterfook lost her battle with cancer Friday night. My heart goes out to her family and all that will feel an empty space in their life without her. I had only recently started getting to know  Lisa and regret that I hadn’t met her sooner. At the end of her life, when some  began inching themselves away from reading her blog because her inevitable death was too much for them to bear, I felt sort of the opposite and  wanted more time to know her.

RIP Lisa. Rest well.

The rest that I had to share seem lame now.

Mark Belling called women who breastfeed “sows”. Asshat. – from Feministing , with much ranting from blogging lactivists and anyone with an ounce of common sense. As much as I love supporting and advocating breast-feeding rights, I’m not extending those rights to breastfeeding and driving , though. Sorry, lady. Love the irony of a woman being charged with child endangerment while breastfeeding, though.

IT’S CALLED A SHIT SANDWICH, AND YOU’LL EAT IT AND LIKE IT: Schools across the country are “cutting budgets” by giving plain cheese sandwiches to children whose parents cannot foot the bill for a hot lunch, “singl[ing] out poor children in the most storied location of school-aged social hierarchies – the lunchroom.” My boy, Ethan, is terrified of being a cheese sandwich kid since they instituted this policy at his school. – from feministe, with additional smack-down from Bitch Ph.D , Womanist Musings , Vox Verax and Howard’s Notebook

You’re completely evil if you laugh at this. It’s kind of funny I say that because I laughed my ass off  and made my kids watch it. They were shocked because I’m the one who hates America’s Funniest Home videos because people…it’s just not nice to laugh at other people’s pain. Models falling down on the runway ,though? Totally ok to laugh at. Thanks to temptingmama via twitter.

FINALLY…an online matchmaker site just for geeks. Geek 2 Geek

Geeks are special. Their interests just aren’t the same as most people’s. As a result, traditional dating sites just don’t work well for them. For one thing, if you’re looking for a geek, you’ll have to sift through tons of profiles on other sites before you’ll find any. For another, the kinds of activities asked about onthe other sites are of little interest to geeks.

On a possibly related note, my blog stats reveal lately several searches for people looking to have sex with Boba Fett or “sex with man wearing a Boba Fett mask”. This review of a leather bondange hood that references Boba Fett several times might help those folks out but meanwhile, they might want to check out Geek 2 Geek to see if they can find a willing participant. Good luck with that! I’m not going to be getting in on that action. Sex + masks= freak me right the fuck out. Haven’t you ever seen 8mm?

Also – I updated my fetlife.com profile to include geeks as a turn on. I think that’s geeky in itself.

gracias,The Erotic Ego for the geek love.

Republicans made themseves look like asshats (even more) this past week. Sen. Dave Schultheis of Colorado Springs explains that women should not be given hiv tests because…

“What I’m hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that,” he said. “The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior.”

Also, North Dakota, Montana , Missouri, Arkansas , Tennessee and Minnesota are on an anti-choice policy-making spree.

But E eats everything Yeah, E eats everything

February 25, 2009 · 4 Comments

I’m not supposed to be on the interwebz today. I has work to do. But I had to share 2 things.

First, MC Lars new video for “Guitar Hero Hero(Beating guitar Hero Doesn’t Make You Slash). Check out Parry from Nerf Herder singing  andPaul Gilbert of Mr Big playing guitar. I have previously mentioned how I feel about MC Lars so we’ll skip that part so you can just watch the damn video.

Second….

Knowing how much I have a heart-on for Neko Case, my dear hubby bought me tickets to go see her in April. I am orgasmically excited.  On NPR, her new album is featured as an Exclusive First Listen, which means you can listen to the whole album in it’s entirety.  Good stuff.

Oh…oh….

One more thing!

I tried to watch The Fountain last night. I was looking forward to it – Darren Aronofsky directing Hugh Jackman & Rachel Weiscz …in a film with a sci-fi twist. Yeah, exciting stuff for dorks like me. Halfway through the movie, my son bailed and went to go read but I was determined to stick it out. Next thing I knew, I was having my toe nibbled on by a cat and the DVD menu was cycling through it’s ..whatever you want to call it.  I just could not stay awake. I wanted to, really…just as much as I wanted to love the movie and declare it amazing and astounding but….yeah,it just didn’t happen for me. Maybe I need to watch it again. During daylight hours, when I’m not so tired.

Um…and one more thing.Really, last thing.

This is a taste of what plays CONSTANTLY on my TV lately:

It’s from They might Be Giants “Here Come the ABCs” .This has been part of our collection for years but the youngest only recently discovered it and plays it on an obsessive loop. The funniest part is that he sets up his drums and plays along. This kid is a drummer. I mean, there’s no way around it. He says,”Someday I’m gonna play drums on a real stage and be a drummer.”  Yesterday he said, “Someday when I  get big, I’m gonna play on a stage with dancing letters”.  Go for it,kid. It can’t be any stranger than some of the things people do on stage.

ok.that’s it.

No,wait. Must share these links, which caused my hubby to be even more concerned about my mental health:

“What is it with you and weird fucking?”

Dinosaurs fucking  Robots artistic and comical representation of interspecies love

Zombie Sex Guide exactly what it says

Sex Tips for Zombies zombies are sexual beings too,ya know

I can justify spending so much time at the last two sites because I look at them as valuable research tools. I was challenges last week to write a romance novel, which I began writing. Many words into it, I realized that far too many people had died to probably be considered a romance novel (but the sex was good…that’s romantic, right?Oh,wait…. people should actually like each other when they fuck for it to be romantic. Nevermind. ) so I figured since everyone was dying, I should just go ahead and make them zombies. I was then challenged to “redefine the zombie genre and make zombies sexy and romantic”. I’m on it.

Also, that you Aine for introducing me to Zombie Bukkake. My life is totally and utterly complete now!

Ok.NOW that’s it. Buh bye.

Etsy/Artfire Find: geek details

February 4, 2009 · 5 Comments

I love my new keychain from geek details :

There are several meanings to this button I have found.

To a South Park fan, it’s just another episode.

To a WoW Geek (aka World of Warcraft player/virtual warrior ) , it’s a…hmmm…..I don’t know what it is. A quest or an achievement or something. Something the game tells you you have to do to get whatever it is you need. Levels or honor or whatethehellever. I’m told you have to hug a dead enemy. Sounds fun.

To the WoW Widow like myself, it’s a anti-warcraft protest statement, much like a modern day techy version of Lysistrata. Put down your weapons or you’re not getting any lovin’!, the Greecian women proclaimed. In my house it sounds more like, “I’m going to bed right now. If you want to get laid, you’ll get your ass off the computer and follow me, NOW.And no…I’m not role-playing or dressing up like some slutty Night Elf tonight.”

My library gives you a mini-version of your library card to put on your keychain, like a keycard. I am still trying to find a concise explanation of what “Make Love Not Warcraft” means to these  mostly elderly, bookish women. I suspect that no matter how I describe it,I will still end up with that blank-Temperance-Brennan look, followed by “I have no idea what you’re saying”.

Enough about my new keychain, though, even though it is fabulous (well-constructed, nice quality, unique – all the awesomeness you look for in handmade items).   geek details has a nice array of goods to express your inner geek. My WoW Widower spotted this “For the Horde” serving platter and I could see that he was thinking of smashing my Grandma’s china into a zillion pieces to use for mosaic tesserae so he could have an excuse to replace them with an entire set of these babies. (he scoffs at 14″ plates being called platters. That’s dinner plate size to him. What is it with this big burly Tauren men and their eating?)

Beyond World of Warcraft expressions, there are plenty of other geeky sentiments in the form of art prints, cards, drinking glasses, buttons, keychains and more. Sentiments close to my heart ,like “River Tam could kill Chuck Norris with her brain” (because that is so totally true) and “You’re a great friend…but if the zombies chase us, I’m tripping you” (is it wrong that I’ve actually said this to my kids before? I’m kidding, you know. I might trip the neighbor’s kid but not my own) .

And my current-events favorite:

I think this a button we can all get behind right now, unless of course you’re one of the Big Guys who are lobbying FOR CPSIA regs.

You can check out geek details on both Etsy (there is more inventory to chose from there…including geeky Valentines I love)   & Artfire, as well as seeing what else is going on at the blog.
