I salvaged a few pictures from yesterday. You can look at them all here.

Today’s picture:

One Cute Kid,complete with messy hair & dirty face

One Cute Kid,complete with messy hair & dirty face

This kid and I have an ongoing battle about hair. He HATES to have his hair combed, brushed or pretty much touched in anyway. Ditto with face washing. I have to tackle him for a face washing. The hair is an all-out wrestling match. Because it’s so fine, it easily gets matted like a pre-dreadlock state with the simplest activity and then….yeah, it’s even worse.

Have you ever tried to spray detangler on a moving target? I don’t think that stuff is supposed to go in eyes. oops.

He came up with a solution to needing his hair combed today. He figured that if he cut it, then a comb would no longer be neccesary. Fortunately he only scalloped it a bit before I caught him like a deer in headlights, standing on the bathroom sink, scissors poised to take a hearty chunk off the top.

It’s time to give the kid a mohawk again. That was a lot easier to maintain.

Maybe hes aspiring to have Bob Marley Hair?

Maybe he's just aspiring to have Bob Marley Hair?

This is what my day looked like:

This day sucked

This day sucked

The day woke up this morning and had one goal on it’s agenda: to frustrate the  hobbitsnot out of me. Day, you fucking suck and I hate you.

I’m feeling listy. Or maybe it’s listlessness but whatever. You get a list anyway.

Thursday Thirteen: Thirteen Things I Collect

  1. maps
  2. vintage clothing & linens
  3. music
  4. skulls
  5. bird’s nests
  6. words, in many forms
  7. cobalt-blue glass (and other colors too but I prefer blue)
  8. bees (not the real thing but someday I would  like to keep them)
  9. fabric -she who dies with the most fabric wins is kind of my motto
  10. yarn
  11. witchy things -goddess worshipping, iconic imagery,stories…..
  12. photographs ; my memories in the raw
  13. fish (again, not real ones )

I was going to add children, clutter & dust to the list but those are givens.

In barlight, she looked alright In daylight, she looked desperate

January 14, 2009 · 8 Comments

I have 12 blogs in my Google Reader that begin  with the word “Life”.

The pseudo-hubby’s computer & I are not compatible (have I mentioned I cannot wait to get my new computer?) . I can’t write worth a damn on his keyboard (certain keys used for gaming tend to stick and hold in place), ridiculous settings tell me I can’t do or look at things I normally would and the mouse occasionally spazzes on me, forcing me to go places I didn’t mean to go.

For instance, when I’m at my Blogger Reader page, I will intend to click on Life in a Quad ,but instead I will be taken to life of a bird or life of cinemetic moments (but hey,if I hadn’t gone to the actual blog I would have never known that they both have Twitter and you know I needed more people to follow there…) . Sometimes even Lis gets some clicks

I’m momentarily confused because, not only are none of those blogs the chronicles of a polyfidelitous quad, but because THE picture is gone.

Oh, why’s they take that marvelous picture off! I love that picture…

and then I realize I’m just at the wrong place.

This is the picture I’m talking about.

extraordinary-mind

I adore this and had to share it with all of you too.

Now that I’m done rambling on about NOTHING (sort of like Julia Cameron’s Morning Pages…) , I’m going to try to accomplish something today. Even if it’s just finding my currently MIA camera…

RECENT MEDIA

Toy Box Reviews Well, specifically Adult Toy boxes. After the incident involving my 3 year old ,handcuffs & a tube of lube,it’s probably not a bad idea.

Death Proof Hottest. Lapdance. Ever. The girl that plays uhhh…one of the chicks in the car (yeah, that’s helpful), should play Agent 355 in the Y: The Last Man movie, if there ever is one. *crosses fingers*

I liked Planet Terror better.

Skippyjon Jones The current favorite book(s) of the youngest offspring (should I start calling him Pluto?) , Skippyjon the kitty-boy reminds me very much of my own little monster-boy.Skippyjon is a mischievious Siamese Cat who thinks he’s a Chihuahua and when in Chihuahua-mode, he speaks in this cute leetle Spanish accent, with real , commonplace Spanish words sprinkled into the text with many made-up words ending in “-ito”. (Carlos: “Wait, is this embracing hispanic heritage or offending it?”) and hangs out with his friends,Los Chimichangas. The books are fun to read …and relate-able.

An array of music coming from my son’s room (there is no link possible to represent his music collection )  , as he tries to chose ONLY 10 CDs to take with him as he backpacks to and through the Southern US.

Live till you die,I know

Music Memoirs

10 songs that sum up your weekend…or were on your weekend playlist…and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did
  1. “Fairytale of New York”, The Pogues  ………one of my favorite Christmas-time songs
  2. “Through to You”,Cute is What We Aim For………..“Mom, listen to this song! Isn’t it soooo  good?” ,said my nearly-12 yr old.  Uh,yeah…sure
  3. “In The Fade”, Queens of the Stone Age….”Mom, listen to this. I never really listened to this one before. Isn’t it good?”, said my 18 year old. Yes. Yes, it is.
  4. “Hello,I Love You”, covered by The Cure ………. it makes me happy when a favorite band covers another favorite bands songs. Unless they fuck it up. Which they did not.
  5. “Faithfully”, covered by Claudio Sanchez….”Here, honey…listen to this! Isn’t it good?”, said by me to Carlos, who hates both Journey & Coheed.Fun stuff to do to your hubby on a Saturday night!
  6. “Ghetto Love”, Spinnerette….my latest eargasm material. I want to have Brody Dalle’s baby. Please don’t bother me with the biological impossibilities of this goal. There are no boundaries when creating an imaginary love child.
  7. “Crazy Train”,sung by me, while pretending to BE a train with the 3 year old. It was indeed a crazy train. It needed the appropriate music
  8. “Sympathy for the Devil”, Rolling Stones…..inserted into my head while reading V is for Vendetta, which I am re-reading after failing to have a coherent conversation about it. I hate when I forget things about what I read.
  9. “She’s Mine”, Brett Dennen…..the only song in the background I was aware of during Saturday night’s tear-the-room-apart sex fest. There must have been a lull in the moans  when it played. But what great words to hear while having great sex with someone you love     the music fills the space between
    the deities and the prophecies
    of our bodies pressed seamlessly
    silent in the shade
  10. “To Live Is To Fly”, Townes Van Zandt….played in Six Feet Under during the scene where  Maggie & Nate make love and he has a brain hemmorage(written in white for those who haven’t watches Season 5 of Six Feet Under yet and don’t like spoilers. You can highlight it to find out…). I doubt I would have recognized the song if it wasn’t for my oldest kid who is  a huge Townes Van Zandt fan and got me to start listening a couple of years ago. This musical education  thing goes both ways in the parenting/offspring relationship

Oh, my little honey bee I’m so glad you stung me You’ve become my weakness Now I’ve got your sweetness

December 2, 2008 · 3 Comments

These earrings, mentioned a couple of weeks ago as one of my WANTS, are now mine….thanks to some guy who reads my blog and seems to like me a little bit.

He calls these a Just Because present. I think he’s just trying to make up for impregnating me with Demon Spawn  four or so years ago. This week I have also received a tin of chocolate hazelnut Pirouettes, LUNCH that I did not have to cook, a non-Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, a chocolate chip muffin and scones. Retribution for carrying the most adorable yet most monstrous child on earth often comes in the form of food, apparently.Because damn…the kid didn”t add nearly enough  extra padding to my ass!

The jewelry & yummies help. A little. Maybe dear Carlos would like to offer some other gifts of apology, like a case of my favorite beer ? Pretty please?

Current Media

::Watched:: Sunshine

Visually stunning, enthralling.Check out special features for commentary from Director Danny Boyle to help clarify some of those ,”Um…I’m not sure I know what just happened?” moments AND commentary from some science guy for those silly pragmatists  who watch sci-fi films and say things like, “Oh,THAT would never happen! This is SO unrealistic”

::Reading:: Mo Willems’ Elephant & Piggie books

The key is to read them with the right inflection, emotion and facial expressions. We love these books. Well, we really love all Mo Willems’ books but Elephant & Piggie are new favorites that are frequently read right now.

::Listening:: Underworld

::Making:: youngest daughter’s school is having a Mitten Drive & have a goal to collect 100 pairs of mittens to donate to charity. I’m going to make a couple pairs, recycled from sweaters,

Old Jack o’ Lantern’s grinning, Pointing jagged yellow teeth at me

November 23, 2008 · 6 Comments

I opened up the bathroom door to see a child standing in the hallway, waiting patiently, with this smile on his little face that I knew meant he had been up to no good, yet whatever it was he had done, he was proud of it.

“I made pumpkins!”

“You made pumpkins? Show me.”

He led my into the bedroom and pointed to the wall above his sister’s bed. A quartet of pumpkins grinned back with happy yet eerie jack-o-lantern grins.

“AHH! you’re not supposed to draw on the walls!”

The little imp, he gave me this little smile and put on those wide-eyes. “Oh,I’m not?” It was pure feigned innocence, which is both infuritating and adorable.

“No, you are not.”

“I’m supposed to only draw on paper?” More saccharine-sweet feigned innocence. Oh,this kid….

“Yes. PAPER ONLY.Got it?”

He looked up at his artwork and told me,”But paper isn’t BIG enough!”

I wonder if Diego Rivera started out with pumpkins on the bedroom wall.

And Neil Young always claimed that Sweet Home Alabama was one of his favorite songs. And legend has it that he was an honorary pall bearer at Ronnie’s funeral… such is the Duality of the Southern Thing

October 15, 2008 · 1 Comment

I am in such a weird funk right now. All I can seem to manage is meme-ish things but hey, I pick good memes, right?

Wednesday Media Mix

Listen: What’s your favorite recent musical discovery?

Fleet Foxes I’m not all that impressed some days with Rolling Stone magazine but they recently said that Fleet Foxes was a blend of The Beach Boys, Band of Horses, Animal Collective and Crosby,Still & Nash. That nails it, right there so they got something right.

(Listen to: Tiger Mountain Peasant Song by Fleet Foxes )

Watch: Which movie best reflects your romantic life?

True Romance? Ok,no. (That’s the first movie that popped into my head because the other night I had this weird ass dream that I had another baby. It was a girl and I named her Alabama. The baby wasn’t really a baby, though – she was already a little girl. I’m not sure how that works but I’m just grateful it was only a dream. It’s been awhile since I saw that movie but  it was I immediately thought of when I woke up because of Alabama,.I have no idea what sparked that dream but I have been listening to Drive-By Truckers a lot recently and that’s very Alabama-ish)

(Listen to :Three Great Alabama Icons)

All right, seriously, I’m going to say Bus Stop .Boy with blinders on meets Less-than-angelic Girl and decides she is IT for him. He pushes and pushes and pushes her to be his forever and always and she resists until finally she figures out that she’d be stupid to let him go.

Read: When was the last time you were in a library?

I live almost right across the street from our library and I go nearly every day.

We never said what we were dreaming of But you turned me into somebody loved

October 7, 2008 · 6 Comments

Stuff That Makes My  Life Awesome Currently

♥ making up after having our worst fight in 9 years together. We hadn’t really spoken in nearly a week…nor said “I love you”, which is typically said often and always.

♥ library book sales – 30 books for $5. Today….a bag of books for $2. Please help me find the willpower to not go.

♥ seeing my chiropractor. I love the sound of my spine being alined .That’s a noise even more satisfying than the clink-tinging of stuff being sucked into the vacuum cleaner

♥ sweet potato fries dipped in creamy curry dressing. Since eating them this way last July, I actually have cravings for them this way.

♥ Ruth & Arthur on Six Feet Under. (If you have watched beyond episode ,episode 34,season 3, for the love of all that is good and unholy, DO NOT tell me what happens!) . They are the sweetest couple ever.

♥ my cat earning her keep with her mad mouse-catching skills

♥ snuggling under blankets with a boy in bug pajamas on a chilly autumn morning

♥ how excited that boy is just because he has bug pajamas

Little old lady passing by, Catching everyone’s eye, You have such a charming manner, Sweet and shy.

October 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

There’s this old lady  with a walker ,shuffling down the hall towards us. She’s wearing a bright teal knitted winter hat on her head, a t-shirt with a black & white silk-screened cow, a blue and red plaid flannel shirt over that, unbuttoned. Pink & yellow lowered pajama pants and bright blue fuzzy slippers.

My mom nudges me and says,”Oh,god….there’s she is,the crazy lady. She’s so weird.”

The old crazy lady has barely moved 2 feet down the hall by the time we’re upon her. I do the only polite thing and say “HI”. The old lady completely ignores me and looking straight on at my mother, tells her ,”Oh,my….you look SO beautiful today!” .My mother is all embarrassed and says “Thank you” and the old lady shuffles on and we continue on our way.

My Mom looks at me as we’re walking out the door  and says,”Well, maybe she’s not so bad after all.”
